About NameForge

NameForge exists because naming is the first creative decision in every project — a pet, a band, a startup, a D&D character — and it is the one people get stuck on longest. We built nine generators that coin names from phonetic rules rather than recycling dictionary phrases, because invented names are easier to own, more likely to have a free domain, and more memorable than the thousandth “Elite” something.

How the generators work

Each category has its own word pools tuned to what makes that kind of name work: pet names follow the two-syllable recall rule, fantasy names encode the phonetics of their races, brand names chase the short coined shape that survives a logo, usernames skip the digits that get mistyped. Generation runs entirely in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere, and every batch is yours to use with no attribution.

How the guides are written

The guides collect the advice that survives contact with reality: the availability checks that prevent rebrands, the read-aloud test that filters two hundred names to three, the recall distance rule for dog names. They are updated when practices change — and corrections from readers are treated as the highest-priority fixes.

What this is not

Not a trademark or legal service — availability and trademark checks belong with the official databases and, for anything significant, a professional. The disclosures page explains exactly how this site funds itself.

Principles we build by

Three rules shape every generator and every guide here. First, coin rather than repeat: invented names are more ownable, more searchable and more defensible than recycled words. Second, judge names by use — read aloud, typed on a phone, said in a sentence — never by how they look in a list. Third, keep the user in control: no account walls, no paywalled batches, no dark patterns that hide the copy button. Naming is stressful enough; the tool should make it faster and lighter, not add steps to it. If a generator or guide on this site ever fails those rules, the contact address is right there on every page.
